Black Boy Conclusion

January 16, 2009

After reading Black Boy I found out something very important; that Richard’s Mum was a teacher and they weren’t actually that poor. I also found out that Richard lived with a loving white family, well as in the book he says that white people were mean to him. When I heard this I was very disappointed, but still felt for Richard.  Even though I know about this I think the book was very educational. I would recommend this from ages 12+ because it is a good read but younger children may not understand it.

Graphic Novels

January 16, 2009

This week for english we read graphic novels. I read The Hobbit; even though I have read the normal version it was still very enjoyable. THe Hobbit is about a hobbit called Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo didn’t like going on adventures until one day when Gandalf the wizard and the twelve dwarves arrived at Bilbo’s doorstep. They insisted that Bilbo should come on an adventure with them. The adventure was to go and regain the treasure that was stolen by the dragon called Smaug.

Black boy Chapter 2

November 20, 2008

Richard’s dad has run away and Richard, his mother and brother are always hungry; it effects Richard a lot at first but then he gets used to being hungry. Richard moved in with his grandparents and was later never hungry; they lived in a big house and Richard loved it, apart from the fact that he had to go to church because his grandparents were very religious. Richard also loved it because his grandmother had a maid who had lot’s of books, ~Richard became curious and insisted that the maid was to read him a story. The maid read Richard the story but later got in trouble for reading to him, because his grandmother suggestedit was the devils work and did not agree with it. Richard’s mother then grew sick and had to leave his mother.

Richard then moved in with his Uncle which Richard didn’t mind until his Uncle played a prank on him. Richard’s Uncle lived near the Mississipi river and one day brought Richard and himself into the river and insisted that the horse that was pulling the wagon needed to drink from the middle of the river; this was not true of course, but Richard seemed to be terrified and wanted to get out. Richard never trusted his uncle again after that.

One day Richard was in the house when a man came into the house he told Richardthat the bed he was sleeping in was the bed a child had died in, Richard then became terrified and could never get to sleep in the bed. His Uncle told him to grow up and just forget about it, Richard couldn’t and then decided that he wanted to go back to his mother.

Adrian Mole Part1

October 27, 2008

The book I am reading now is about a boy called Adrian Mole who writes a diary about all his problems. Adrian is 15 and has a Dad who is the father of another woman than his wife and his Mum is pregnant with a child so Adrian’s life is very messed up. It is a funny book and very dramatic, but I don’t think children would understand much of it but I think it’s a very easy book to read for teenagers or adults.
